Kuchel Contractors is a family business based in the Barossa Valley. The business began in the post war years and continues successfully today under the management of 3rd Generation Kuchel family supported by a fantastic team of staff, who are proud to provide a quality of service above average by providing well trained, efficient operators combined with the latest technology in their fleet.
The Landscaping yard located in the heart of the Barossa Valley is fully stocked for all landscaping needs from home garden improvements to providing products for larger landscaping projects.
Kuchels have invested in C-Track and Navman satellite tracking systems, which enables them to give a better service to their customers due to programming of loads, and eventually paperless cartnotes. It is also a valuable tool to enable them to meet the demands of due diligence responsibility as well as their part in the chain of responsibility.

Kuchels have a policy of continual improvement in all areas of the business and as part of that policy have committed themselves to a high standard of OH&S and Training. Their Operators have current Front End Loader Certificates and have attained Certificate 3 in Transport & Distribution (Road Transport).

In 2006, Managing Director, Tony Kuchel, was honoured with the LS Booth Award; “Outstanding Contribution to the SA Road Transport Industry”, by the South Australian Road Transport Association.

Maxwell Kuchel began his career as a truck driver in 1945 at the age of 18 in SA’s Riverland. He moved to the Barossa Valley in 1951 sharing a school bus contract with a cousin, and finding work for his trucks in-between school bus hours. Over the years he worked for the Highways, ICI (now PQM) in Penrice, and Adelaide Brighton Cement. In 1973, son Tony joined him in the business. Max was a hardworking, honest individual and took great pride in the growing business of Kuchel Contractors. He was known as a fair and honest individual and was well respected by his peers, right up until his passing in 2004.

Tony Kuchel began his career in mid 1973, Joining his late father Max in the family tipper business. The business grew over the years and became ‘Kuchel Contractors’ which operates in the Barossa Valley and throughout most of SA and the Eastern Seaboard. Tony has always taken great pride in the presentation of the fleet and is responsible for some of the custom paintings over the years, and the additional business of ‘Kuchel Custom Trucks’. Tony has always been a very passionate advocate for the road transport sector, working to raise awareness about transport and supporting the local community.
